About the role
About us…
KWY is an award-winning Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering culturally grounded programs that support Aboriginal people, families and communities to create positive, lasting change.
Since 2011, KWY has worked to break the cycle of domestic and family violence, strengthen family wellbeing, and reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in the child protection system. Our services span family support, youth work, men’s behaviour change, kinship care, reunification, social and emotional wellbeing, research, and workforce development.
Supporting more than 2,300 families each year, KWY offers a collaborative, values-driven workplace where your work makes a genuine difference in the lives of Aboriginal families and communities.
About the position...
We have (4) full-time and part-time vacancies available for an initial 12-month period, with a high likelihood of extension. IFS Program is funded to 2031.
The KWY Family Practitioner is an experienced clinician responsible for delivering culturally responsive, trauma‑informed interventions to Aboriginal children, young people, and their families. The Practitioner contributes to service quality, safety, and the effective distribution of supports that respond to community needs.
The Practitioner conducts comprehensive risk assessments, implements safety planning, and provides intensive and complex case management, advocacy, and therapeutic intervention. Engagement occurs across multiple settings, including phone contact, home visits, and community‑based environments, often within a multidisciplinary team working with adults and adolescents.
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong clinical skills, relevant experience, and sound child protection knowledge, including working with Aboriginal families experiencing domestic and family violence and child protection concerns. The Practitioner will work collaboratively with the Department for Child Protection (DCP) and other statutory and non‑statutory partners to support coordinated and safe outcomes.
Operating within a strengths‑based, culturally responsive, and trauma‑informed framework, the Practitioner delivers family‑focused interventions aimed at reducing the number of Aboriginal children entering out‑of‑home care. This includes providing individualised therapeutic support, facilitating access to services and community resources, and advocating for adults and where relevant, adolescents to enhance family safety, wellbeing, and parenting capacity.
