About the role
Ausvet is seeking a highly motivated Project Officer to join our team in Perth. This role is designed for an individual with a strong background in bioveterinary science or agriculture and a burgeoning expertise in veterinary epidemiology. Working alongside senior consultants, the Project Officer will assist in achieving business outcomes in the biosecurity, food security, and health security sectors, specifically focusing on disease surveillance and international project delivery. The successful candidate will utilize exceptional analytical skills and an understanding of epidemiology and information systems to support data analysis, project proposals, and stakeholder liaison. Ausvet views this as a progressive role, expecting the candidate to grow and develop into a consultant role in the future.
Key responsibilities
Assist senior consultants in the development and delivery of biosecurity and health security projects.
Undertake data analysis tasks related to disease surveillance, such as evaluating disease submission data or monitoring animal health patterns.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for relevant project work and ensure tasks are correctly assigned in the CRM.
Assist in the writing of tender applications, formal proposals, and scientific reports for project work, including literature reviews.
Provide operational assistance to information systems projects and broader business initiatives.
Participate in field-based data collection and research, including necessary livestock or wildlife handling.
Perform data entry tasks, including the maintenance of Ausvet's project register to ensure projects are appropriately registered and trackable.
Deliver all assigned project tasks within defined timelines to a high technical standard.
Maintain active and clear communication with the project team and supervisors.
Proactively seek support to develop epidemiological expertise and information system skills.
About you
Essential: BSc in Veterinary Science or Agricultural Science is required.
Essential: Experience in project management and the coordination of surveillance data.
Essential: Technical proficiency in statistical software such as R, STATA, or Tableau.
Essential: Demonstrated experience in business writing, including tenders and research reports.
Essential: Demonstrated ability and willingness to travel and participate in livestock handling activities.
Essential: Valid working visa for Australia and experience with or understanding of Australian agriculture.
Desirable: MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology or an equivalent advanced degree.
Desirable: Experience supporting international biosecurity projects or working within government development frameworks.
Strong attention to detail.
High level analytical, conceptual, and research abilities.
