Maintenance Officer

New Auckland Place is a family owned, 128 bed Aged Care Facility in Gladstone, QLD. We pride ourselves with having a great rapport within the community, renowned for staff retention and a high standard of resident care.

We are looking for a Full Time Maintenance Officer, a jack of all trades that is also a people person. Reporting directly to the Facility Manager, you will be part of a small yet dynamic team to provide general handy person services to a large, aged care facility. 

Working as a member of a team, our Maintenance Officers work autonomously and as a team, to provide routine, planned, ad-hoc and respond to urgent maintenance requests and general garden maintenance. And the requests are varied! You can expect requests from planned maintenance works like painting, patching and flooring repairs, general pruning and planned mowing, through to assisting residents with sensors, water pressure, TV remotes or bathroom and handrail installations - no day is the same in Aged Care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain grounds and shared spaces to a high standard of presentation

• Perform general garden maintenance, including mulching, planting, weed control (manual and spraying), and lawn care

• Carry out general building maintenance such as painting, lighting replacement, gutter cleaning, basic plumbing, tiling, and minor repairs

• Follow preventative maintenance programs to ensure timely upkeep of buildings and outdoor areas

• Identify, report, and address hazards in line with work health and safety procedures

• Obtain quotes for repairs or maintenance works as directed by the Facility Manager

• Provide friendly, professional service to residents, visitors, contractors, and staff

• Build positive relationships with residents through a respectful, approachable, and supportive manner

• Maintain impeccable personal presentation

Must haves:

• Sound maintenance skills with a broad range of practical applications such as in carpentry, tiling, painting, plastering, labouring, property maintenance, or handyman tasks 

• Possess good communication and organisational skills

• Current Driver’s License Class C

• Have the ability to recognise, escalate and resolve maintenance matters which require further assistance

• Be able to work proactively to identify maintenance problems, including regularly inspecting and assessing repair work

• A satisfactory Police Clearance Certificate is required as per the Aged Care Act 1997

Desirable: 

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Officer in Aged Care 

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience completing maintenance for commercial businesses 

• Knowledge of Work, Health and Safety Requirements

• Have the ability to recognise, escalate and resolve maintenance matters which require further assistance

• A SafeWork NSW White Card
