Community Engagement Officer

About The Position

Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a passionate and innovative Community Engagement Officer for the Connected Beginnings initiative in Hedland. The Community Engagement Officer will work in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders towards community-led systems change for the integration and access to early childhood services for children at risk of developmental vulnerability. They will actively promote community development initiatives, build strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, and continuously identify new opportunities to meet the needs of the community.

The vision of the Connected Beginnings Program is to provide all children with a great start by improving their wellbeing prior to school, with a specific focus on education, health, and family services. The initiative will particularly address the needs specific to Aboriginal families living in Hedland using a collective impact approach to determine unique and community-owned goals and strategies to connect families to support services and improve the ability of children to achieve a positive transition to school.

The Community Engagement Officer will be employed by Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation which is a community-based non-profit overseen by the Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL) and operationally managed by a Chief Executive Officer. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand and strive to achieve the vision and values of Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation.
• Participate in meetings, training, and activities as required.
• Operate as a valuable member of the Connected Beginnings team.
• Function as a primary point of contact working with the HASL Elders
• Coordinate a project calendar keeping the team on track with due dates.
• Develop actions and activities to meet the agreed needs and priorities from the community
• Develop and maintain strong community and sector relationships.
• Working with the Manager to deliver a comprehensive communications plan.
• Develop and maintain data collection systems as directed.
• Daily data entry and ensuring data is available for reporting.
• Coordinate community networking opportunities.
• Organise community forums and activities under the supervision of the Collective Impact Lead and Manager of Community + Partnerships
• Provide assistance on grant applications including basic research or collection of data.
• Promoting, monitoring and implementing items from the action and localised activity plan.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities in a way that fosters mutual respect.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task with demonstrated experience in working as a valuable part of a project team. 
• Ability to coordinate, lead, report, and implement actions from key meetings.
• Well-developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal families and community groups. 
• Work successfully in a small team and maintain broad professional networks.
• Ability to generate concise and accurate reports, briefing papers, and other documentation.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 programs – particularly Outlook, SharePoint, Lists, Teams and Word.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

Desirable 

• Demonstrated experience in managing data collection and entry processes. 
• Qualification in relevant discipline such as community development, or equivalent.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 applications including Planner and SharePoint or experience in learning and implementing new IT.
• Proven experience in community-led change, working across, and building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Relevant experience in a similar role.
• Experience in community capacity building.
• Experience in community and stakeholder liaison and relationship management.
• Practical experience working with the community, including community members from diverse or marginalised backgrounds.
• Understanding of children’s services, funding, and gaps in current service delivery environment.
• Existing relationships with a range of stakeholders in the local and regional area.
• Knowledge and experience of the Collective Impact approach.

Other Essential Requirements

• Full Class C Driver’s License.
• Satisfactory Police Check 
• Working with Children Check
