Traffic Controller

About the role

Ironbuilt Infrastructure Pty Ltd is seeking a Traffic Controller to join our team on a casual basis. This is a vital safety-critical position that plays an essential role in managing traffic flow and ensuring the safety of workers, equipment and the public at our construction and infrastructure sites in Wollongong NSW 2500. As a Traffic Controller, you will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic with precision and professionalism, helping to maintain productivity whilst minimising delays and safety risks. This role is fundamental to our commitment to maintaining safe, compliant work environments across all our projects.

What you'll be doing

• Directing and controlling traffic flow at designated work sites using hand signals, traffic control devices and communication equipment

• Positioning and maintaining traffic control devices including cones, signs, and barriers in accordance with traffic control plans

• Communicating effectively with site supervisors, operators and other personnel to ensure safe and efficient site access

• Monitoring traffic patterns and adjusting traffic control measures in response to changing site conditions

• Maintaining a professional demeanour and ensuring courteous interactions with the public and other road users

• Conducting regular inspections of traffic control equipment to identify wear, damage or maintenance requirements

• Adhering to all relevant traffic control standards, Australian Standards and site-specific safety procedures

• Recording and reporting any incidents, near misses or hazards observed during work

• Remaining alert and maintaining concentration throughout shifts to ensure ongoing site safety

What we're looking for

• Current Traffic Controller (Blue Card)

• White Card - General Construction Induction

• Valid Australian Driver's License (Class C minimum)

• Demonstrated experience as a Traffic Controller, preferably within construction or infrastructure projects

• Strong understanding of traffic control principles, road safety regulations and relevant Australian Standards

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

• High level of situational awareness and ability to respond quickly to changing conditions

• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to accommodate varying shift requirements

• Commitment to health and safety practices and willingness to comply with all site-specific safety protocols
