About the role
Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design of approximately 800 students is an inclusive comprehensive coeducational specialist selective high school, with a support unit located in Sydney's Inner West, offering a broad curriculum with a specialisation in visual arts and design. The school is multiculturally diverse, and also geographically dispersed population of which 4% are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. With 13% of our students born overseas and over 50 different languages spoken at home, 9% of our students require some level of English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) support.
The school community values creativity and innovation with high expectations in academic achievement. The school actively fosters the wellbeing of all students to allow them to flourish, where every student is known, valued and cared for. Through the delivery of a broad and rigorous curriculum, the school provides opportunities for all students to achieve excellence. This curriculum includes a Visual Arts and Design selective stream, academic and design enrichment stream, music and dance ensemble programs and extensive extra-curricular and enrichment programs.
HSC and NAPLAN results are continually improving and the school was ranked 17th Comprehensive High school in the 2025 NSW HSC rankings. The school is supported by a hardworking parent community who support our initiatives whilst exploring avenues for parents/carers to be involved in the unique nature of the school.
General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach English 7-12, with demonstrated capacity to lead and develop colleagues to plan, implement & differentiate evolving curriculums.
Demonstrated understanding of and capacity to lead staff in supporting the learning needs of a diverse range of students, including HPGE students in each cohort within a culture of high expectations.
Proven ability to lead whole school Literacy initiatives, whilst ensuring improved Literacy outcomes for all students, underpinned by effective teaching practices in the English faculty.
Proven ability to be a dynamic member of the school executive leadership team and to lead initiatives that address whole school strategic directions and productive relationships across the school community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
