About the role
Hospitality Equipment & Supplies | Canberra
We're looking for a bit of a unicorn.
Someone who can sell. Someone who loves people. Someone who's happy getting out on the road, walking into a café or restaurant and starting a conversation. Someone who notices opportunities, follows things through and doesn't need to be told what to do next.
And, particularly while we're building our Canberra presence, someone who's quite happy wearing a few different hats.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
About WGAWGA Food Equipment has been supporting the hospitality industry since 1965, supplying commercial kitchen equipment, tableware, glassware, kitchenware, uniforms and everyday hospitality essentials.
We're now bringing WGA to Canberra.
We're not interested in becoming another faceless online equipment retailer competing purely on price.
We want to build something much more valuable: a trusted local hospitality supplier that knows its customers, understands their businesses and is there when they need us.
That's where you come in.
The OpportunityWe're looking for an energetic, capable and genuinely personable Sales & Business Development person to help establish and grow WGA Canberra.
This isn't a role where you'll sit behind a desk waiting for enquiries to arrive.
You'll be out meeting café owners, chefs, restaurants, pubs, clubs, caterers, schools, aged-care facilities and other hospitality operators across Canberra and the surrounding region.
You'll introduce WGA, learn about their businesses, find out what they need and become someone they know they can call when they need anything from a box of glasses to a new dishwasher or complete commercial kitchen equipment package.
You'll also help us understand the Canberra market — who's opening, who's expanding, what customers are asking for and where the opportunities are.
In many ways, you'll become the face of WGA in Canberra.
What You'll Be DoingYour days will be varied, but could include:
Getting out on the road and introducing WGA to hospitality businesses throughout Canberra
Taking orders, picking up stock and making deliveries
Building genuine, long-term customer relationships
Generating new business through calls, emails, visits, networking and good old-fashioned conversations
Following up enquiries and preparing quotes
Working with customers to source the right equipment and supplies for their needs
Following up quotes and opportunities rather than waiting for the phone to ring
Developing relationships with chefs, venue owners, managers and procurement teams
Identifying new venues, refurbishments, developments and other sales opportunities
Looking after existing WGA customers in the region
Working closely with our Albion Park team on pricing, purchasing, stock, dispatch and deliveries
Helping us refine our Canberra product range based on what local customers actually want
Representing WGA at local hospitality events, supplier demonstrations and industry opportunities
Pitching in wherever needed as we establish and grow the Canberra operation
There will be targets and accountability — we're building a serious business — but we believe great sales come from great relationships, consistent follow-up and actually looking after people.
Who We're Looking ForHospitality or commercial kitchen equipment experience would be fantastic, but we're equally interested in the right person.
You might currently work in hospitality, foodservice, equipment sales, wholesale, business development or another relationship-driven sales environment.
You may even be a chef or hospitality manager who's ready to step away from the kitchen or venue floor but doesn't want to leave the industry behind.
More importantly, you're someone who:
Loves talking to people and building relationships
Is confident walking into a business and introducing yourself
Has a natural sales instinct without being pushy
Is organised and follows things through
Spots opportunities and acts on them
Is comfortable working independently
Has initiative and doesn't wait to be given a list every morning
Can juggle several things at once without losing sight of the customer
Is commercially minded and understands that relationships ultimately need to translate into sales
Wants to help build something rather than simply inherit an established territory
Takes pride in being reliable and doing what they say they'll do
And perhaps most importantly, you're the sort of person customers genuinely enjoy dealing with.
Why This Role Is DifferentYou'll be joining WGA at a pretty exciting moment.
Canberra isn't an established branch where everything has already been decided. You'll be there at the beginning.
You'll have the backing of an established business, supplier relationships, systems, product knowledge and our Albion Park team — but you'll also have the opportunity to shape what WGA Canberra becomes.
As the Canberra business grows, we want this role to grow with it.
For someone ambitious, entrepreneurial and excited by the idea of helping build a business within a business, there's a genuine opportunity here to make your mark.
The Practical StuffThis is a Canberra-based role involving regular travel throughout the ACT and surrounding region, so a current driver's licence is essential.
Experience in hospitality, commercial foodservice, equipment, wholesale or B2B sales will be highly regarded, but attitude, initiative and relationship-building ability matter enormously to us.
Remuneration will include a competitive base salary with an incentive structure that rewards genuine sales growth and performance.
Sound Like You?We don't need a perfectly polished corporate application.
Tell us who you are, what you've been doing and why the idea of helping build WGA Canberra appeals to you.
If you're a salesperson, hospitality person, relationship-builder and problem-solver rolled into one — we'd really like to hear from you.
