Industrial Electrician

About the role

The Industrial Electrician installs, maintains, tests, fault-finds and commissions electrical systems across industrial facilities and project sites. The role works from drawings, specifications and site instructions and is responsible for completing work safely, neatly and efficiently while minimising disruption to client operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, modify and maintain industrial electrical systems, including switchboards, distribution boards, MCCs, motors, drives, power, lighting and control systems.

• Install cable tray, ladder, conduit and other containment, and complete cable pulling, glanding, termination, identification and dressing.

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, cable schedules, specifications and equipment manuals.

• Undertake planned and reactive maintenance, systematic fault-finding and repairs on electrical plant and equipment.

• Complete inspection, testing and verification using suitable calibrated instruments, and accurately record results.

• Support switchboard installations, alterations, shutdowns, cutovers, re-energisation and commissioning activities.

• Follow site rules, SWMS, permits, isolation and lock-out/tag-out requirements, and stop work where risks are not adequately controlled.

• Complete required records and communicate progress, constraints, defects and material needs early, including through test sheets, job reports and red-line drawing mark-ups.

• Work professionally with clients, facility representatives, apprentices, subcontractors and other trades, and care for company and client assets.

About you

• Electrical trade qualification and current electrical licence valid for the work location.

• Demonstrated industrial electrical installation, maintenance, testing and fault-finding experience.

• Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics and use electrical test instruments competently.

• Current Construction Induction Card (White Card).

• Current driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites.

• Sound understanding of safe isolation, permit and lock-out/tag-out requirements.

• Strong safety focus, attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills.

• Good communication skills and a professional approach when working at client sites.

• Desirable: CPR and low-voltage rescue certificate.

• Desirable: Hazardous-area electrical experience and relevant EEHA competencies, including installation, inspection or maintenance in classified areas.
