Manager, Audit and Assurance

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced and expert Manager, Audit and Assurance to lead a high-performing internal audit function and continue to strengthen confidence in Council’s governance, risk and control environment.

This role offers the opportunity to lead Council’s internal audit function and provide independent assurance across governance, risk management, internal controls, and fraud and corruption prevention. You will be a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team, provide reports and advice to the Audit and Risk Management Committee and use your expertise and judgement to influence improvement, strengthen accountability and support informed decision-making.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Lead, coach and develop a capable audit and assurance team, fostering a respectful, accountable and high-performing work environment
• Deliver a contemporary internal audit function in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter, professional standards and agreed assurance priorities
• Design and manage risk-based internal audit plans, methodologies and assurance programs that provide meaningful insights and practical recommendations
• Lead Council’s fraud and corruption prevention framework, promoting integrity, ethical decision-making and strong control practices

About you

For success in this role you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, finance, economics or an equivalent discipline
• Professional certification such as Certified Internal Auditor, Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant
• Proven leadership capability of an internal audit, governance, assurance or risk management function in a complex organisation with the ability to enable your team to perform at their best
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of internal audit standards, governance frameworks, risk management practices and relevant legislation
• Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide strategic advice, influence outcomes and build trusted relationships at senior levels
