About the role
Topgroup Australia, a leading privately owned group supporting the mining and resources sector, is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support our expanding Western Australian operations. Working closely with operational leaders, field crews and clients across the group, you will help maintain safe, productive operations and compliance with legislative and business requirements.
Join an experienced and supportive HSE team that is growing alongside the business. You will work with knowledgeable colleagues, approachable leaders and established systems while contributing fresh ideas, building site capability and helping shape the continued development of our HSE function.
This role would suit a practical, field-focused HSE professional who enjoys working with people, building positive relationships and promoting safer ways of working. You will work alongside operational teams to support greater accountability, ownership and risk awareness across our projects.
If you are seeking a long-term career opportunity with a values-driven company, a positive team culture and genuine pathways for professional development and progression, we encourage you to apply.
This permanent role offers a family-friendly 8-days-on, 6-days-off roster, with the option of FIFO from Perth or residential employment in Kalgoorlie.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with site leaders and field personnel to develop and review site- and task-specific risk assessments, operating procedures and work instructions, and verify the effectiveness of critical controls.
• Coach employees to understand and comply with Topgroup Safe Work Procedures and site requirements.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE management plans, safe work procedures and site initiatives.
• Coordinate verification of competency processes and maintain training records, databases, registers and reporting tools.
• Work with operational leaders and the training team to identify training needs and deliver HSE education programs.
• Prepare and facilitate toolbox meetings, safety meetings and safety discussions during daily pre-starts.
• Communicate HSE information, incidents, lessons learned and operational changes to site personnel in a timely and practical manner.
• Conduct workplace inspections, field interactions, task observations and internal HSE audits in accordance with agreed schedules.
• Support sites to establish, maintain and test compliant emergency plans, procedures and response arrangements.
• Compile monthly HSE reports, analyse trends and manage corrective actions through to effective close-out.
• Ensure incidents and hazards are recorded promptly and accurately in Topgroup’s online safety management platform.
• Lead or support incident investigations using 5 Whys, root cause analysis and ICAM methodologies, and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
• Liaise professionally with client representatives during joint risk assessments, inspections, investigations and performance reviews.
• Provide visible HSE leadership and practical coaching to strengthen accountability and safety performance across safety-critical activities.
• Support change management when site processes, equipment or work methods change.
• Monitor site HSE Management Plans and progress against project performance targets and business requirements.
To be considered for this role you will have:
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar HSE role, preferably within mining, drilling, exploration or another high-risk operational environment.
• A recognised Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety, or an equivalent qualification.
• Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor qualification, or the ability to obtain it before commencement.
• Current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence.
• Strong working knowledge of hazard identification, risk management, critical controls and relevant Western Australian WHS legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships, coach frontline personnel and influence positive safety outcomes.
• Well-developed written communication, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience delivering HSE training, conducting audits and supporting emergency preparedness activities.
• Practical incident investigation experience, including ICAM and root cause analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and electronic HSE management systems, with experience using PeopleTray considered advantageous.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet reporting and operational deadlines.
• A collaborative, hands-on approach and genuine commitment to workplace health and safety.
