About the role
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager is responsible for supporting the continued growth of the business by managing the preparation and submission of quotes, tenders and proposals, developing new business opportunities, maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients, and taking ownership of the company’s marketing and business development activities.
The role will work closely with management and operations to ensure tenders and quotations are accurate, professional, commercially competitive and submitted on time.
Key Responsibilities
Quotes, Tenders & Proposals
Manage the preparation and submission of client quotations, tenders, EOIs and proposals.
Review tender documentation, scopes of work, specifications and commercial requirements.
Coordinate with management and operations to develop accurate pricing, methodologies, schedules and supporting documentation.
Maintain and improve standard tender documentation, capability information, project experience, personnel information and supporting schedules.
Ensure all tender requirements are addressed and submissions are completed professionally and before deadlines.
Track outstanding quotations and tenders and actively follow up with clients.
Maintain a live tender and quotation register, including values, submission dates, status, probability and outcomes.
Conduct post-tender reviews and maintain records of successful and unsuccessful submissions to improve future win rates.
Assist with contract reviews and commercial negotiations where required.
Business Development & Client Relationships
Identify new projects, clients and opportunities that align with the company’s capabilities.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, prospective clients, contractors, consultants and key industry contacts.
Regularly communicate with clients regarding upcoming projects and future work programs.
Monitor industry activity and identify upcoming projects before they reach the formal tender stage.
Arrange client meetings, introductions and follow-ups.
Maintain an active business development pipeline and provide regular updates to management.
Assist management in developing strategies to secure new clients and increase work with existing clients.
Marketing & Company Profile
Take ownership of the company’s day-to-day marketing activities.
Manage and maintain the company website and social media presence, particularly LinkedIn.
Develop professional content highlighting completed projects, equipment, capabilities, milestones and company achievements.
Maintain and regularly update the company Capability Statement and marketing material.
Coordinate photography, project updates, case studies and other promotional material.
Develop marketing campaigns aimed at target industries and prospective clients.
Ensure company branding and presentation remain consistent and professional across all communications.
Assist with industry events, sponsorships, advertising and networking opportunities where appropriate.
Reporting & Administration
Maintain accurate CRM/client records and business development information.
Produce regular reports covering:
Quotes and tenders submitted
Tender pipeline and upcoming opportunities
Tender success/win rate
New client opportunities
Client follow-ups
Marketing activity
Business development priorities
Work closely with management to establish monthly and annual business development targets.
Maintain confidentiality of company pricing, commercial information and client information.
Key Performance Indicators
Performance will be measured against areas including:
Quality and timely completion of quotes and tenders.
Tender and quotation win rate.
Total value of opportunities identified and submitted.
New clients and opportunities generated.
Growth in work from existing clients.
Effective follow-up of outstanding quotations and opportunities.
Accuracy and organization of the tender/business development pipeline.
Consistency and quality of company marketing.
Increased company visibility and engagement within target industries.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate should have:
Strong written communication and document preparation skills.
Experience preparing quotations, tenders, proposals or commercial submissions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines.
Good commercial awareness and ability to understand scopes of work and pricing.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel.
Good communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple tenders and priorities simultaneously.
Experience with marketing, LinkedIn, websites or digital content would be advantageous.
Experience within drilling, mining, civil construction, resources or a related industry would be highly regarded.

The primary objective of the Business Development Manager is to increase the company’s tender success, develop a strong pipeline of future work, strengthen client relationships and improve the company’s market presence, while taking responsibility for the professional and timely preparation of quotes, tenders and marketing material.
