The Position:
The Technical Officer will be a key member of the Centre for Personalised Medicine at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, reporting to the Laboratory Manager and working closely with researchers, clinicians, students and professional staff across the Centre. The position will provide hands-on technical support to the CPM laboratory and clinical research workflow, contributing to high-quality translational research focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with immune-mediated disease.
This role requires a practical, organised and collaborative laboratory professional who can confidently undertake a range of molecular biology, protein and cell-based techniques, while contributing to the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory. The Technical Officer will support research activities, maintain laboratory standards and documentation, provide technical advice and assistance to students and research staff, and contribute to a safe, well-organised and productive research environment.
The Person
An ideal candidate is a motivated and collaborative laboratory professional with experience in biomedical or translational research and strong hands-on technical skills. They will have experience in molecular biology, recombinant protein expression and purification, cell culture, protein and biochemical assays, and the preparation and handling of biological samples.
The successful candidate will be highly organised and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritise and manage competing tasks. They will be able to work independently, use initiative and take responsibility for delivering work to a high standard, while also recognising when to seek guidance or collaborate with colleagues.
The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide technical support and training to students, researchers and other laboratory staff. The individual will contribute positively to the culture and operations of the Centre for Personalised Medicine and will be committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, laboratory quality and safe working practices.
