Legal Counsel (Commercial) 

Growthpoint Properties Australia | Melbourne | Permanent, full-time

Growthpoint Properties is looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join its collaborative legal team. This is a broad and genuinely interesting in-house role, offering exposure across capital transactions, funds management, corporate and commercial matters, finance and treasury, projects, sustainability and disputes. You’ll work closely with teams across the business, providing practical legal advice and helping navigate opportunities, transactions and risk.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel, you’ll become a trusted adviser to stakeholders across Growthpoint. The breadth of the role means no two weeks will necessarily look the same. You could be advising on an acquisition or divestment, negotiating an investment management document, reviewing a SaaS agreement, supporting a financing transaction or working alongside the business on a new project.

Your work will include

• supporting M&A, acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures and other investment opportunities, including the corporate aspects of property transactions
• advising on funds management, including trust and investment management documentation, fundraising materials and general fund matters
• drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, from confidentiality deeds and consulting agreements to SaaS, agency and supply agreements
• supporting corporate governance, policies and ASX reporting
• reviewing and negotiating finance and debt facility documentation
• advising on projects and sustainability-related agreements
• working with internal stakeholders and external advisers on disputes, litigation and insolvency matters
• keeping the business informed about relevant legal and regulatory developments.

What will make you successful

You’ll be an admitted lawyer with around 4 to 8 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally bringing corporate and commercial experience relevant to an ASX-listed, real estate, investment and funds management environment.

More importantly, you’ll bring a commercial mindset. You’ll enjoy getting to know the business behind the legal question, building trusted relationships and finding pragmatic solutions rather than simply identifying risk.
