About the role
Banora Point High School is a comprehensive secondary school located in the Tweed Coast area. The school pays respect to the traditional custodians, the Nganduwal and Goodginburra people of the Minjungbal speaking clans of the Bundjalung nation.The student population is approximately 510, with 10.6% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and less than 2% of students from an English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) background. The school also includes three support unit classes. Banora Point High School enjoys strong partnerships with the Tweed Wollumbin Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (TWAECG), as well as universities, cultural institutions, local businesses and community organisations. Students have represented the school across the North Coast region and the state in dance, music, sport and youth leadership programs.The school has strengthened its commitment to improving student performance, learning culture, and well-being by building teacher capacity in learning and development, curriculum, and effective classroom practice. The school's core values are Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness to Learn. These values form the foundation of the school's culture of inclusivity and diversity. The focus on every student making measurable learning progress has been driven by continuous improvements in educational leadership.There is a consistent focus on Higher School Certificate performance, including staff professional learning centred on deeper data analysis and application.The school continues to build momentum in the areas of student voice, transition programs and meaningful post school pathways.
General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Demonstrated ability to lead and sustain a culture of high expectations to develop a cohesive Mathematics faculty through evidence informed practice that leads to high student achievement.
Evidence of exemplary leadership in the development of high quality, differentiated programs, assessment and feedback to improve student engagement and achievement across all Mathematics syllabi and whole school numeracy.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
