Emergency Medicine Special Skills Registrar Positions - Advance Your Career Through ACEM Training
We are seeking motivated and passionate Emergency Medicine trainees to join our team and continue their training within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) in a range of unique Special Skills Positions based at Flinders Medical Centre.
ACEM Training Year 2027 (Start date Feb 1, 2027)
Simulation/Medical Education
We are looking for a post-Primary Examination trainee in Emergency Medicine with a keen interest in simulation based learning and medical education to undertake a 12-month appointment as our ACEM accredited Special Skills Registrar in Simulation and Medical Education. The position includes 6 months of accredited special skills and is also a TS4 accredited term. The successful applicant will work 0.5 FTE clinically as an Emergency Medicine Registrar and 0.5 FTE in a protected educational role focused on simulation and medical education.
The successful applicant will assist in the development and delivery of medical education programs across all levels, including medical student, RMOs, Registrars and ACEM examination candidates. They will build on the in-situ, high fidelity, multidisciplinary simulation program within the Emergency Department and play a key role in planning, facilitation and debriefing. They will also be a key stakeholder in the governance and planning within the inter-departmental hospital simulation group and undertake a quality improvement project aimed at advancing education and simulation practice within the Emergency Department.
Ultrasound
Working in a full-time position, the successful applicant will work 0.5 FTE as a senior Emergency Registrar in the ED, as well as 0.5 FTE in a dedicated Ultrasound role, undertaking scans in the ED with a FACEM and/or sonographer educator in ED (SEED). The trainee will also receive, 1-on-1 sonographer supervision in the ultrasound department, contributing to the bedside diagnosis and management of patients in ED. During the term, the trainee will also be involved in teaching, quality assurance processes, and research activities in EM POCUS.
This is a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to complete the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) modules over the course of the 12-month position. The modules offered are EFAST, AAA, FELS, Biliary, Lung, Renal, and Proximal DVT. The successful applicant will be expected to complete ASUM-accredited courses for the CCPU modules above prior to commencement of the role.

We are looking for an ACEM trainee with a keen interest in Emergency Medicine Research to undertake a 12-month position as our ACEM accredited Emergency Research Registrar. The position is also TS4 accredited. The successful applicant will work 0.5 FTE as an Emergency Medicine Registrar and 0.5 FTE in a dedicated Research Position. The research component will give the registrar the opportunity to complete research activities such as systemic review, design a project, be involved with ethics and grant applications, collect and analyse data, write a manuscript for publication and get involved with presenting at both internal and external research forums. This will all occur with the support of the Emergency Medicine Research team which consists of ED consultants and research nursing staff.
Paediatric Emergency/ Paediatric Medicine
This is a unique opportunity for PEM, ACEM and RACP Advanced Trainees to undertake a combined Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Paediatric General Medicine year, with 6 months in each unit. In this position, trainees will experience both sides of the Paediatric Emergency/Inpatient interface, gaining comprehensive paediatric medical and acute care experience.
Our accredited Paediatric Medical Unit oversees over 3000 admissions each year, encompasses the state-wide Paediatric Eating Disorders Unit, and oversees one of the two Child Protection Units in South Australia. During their 6 months in the Paediatric Emergency Department, successful applicants to this position will also have generous non-clinical time for involvement in teaching, quality improvement activities and professional/clinical development.
Up to 2 full-time 12-month positions are available.
What else is on offer?
