Carpenter Apprentice

About the role

SSC Building Group PTY LTD is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Carpenter Apprentice to join our growing team in Wallan, VIC. This is a full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to learn and develop practical carpentry skills whilst working alongside experienced tradespeople on residential and commercial building projects. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of carpentry, from framing and structural work to finishing and installations. This role is fundamental to your career development in the building and construction industry and will provide you with the foundation needed to become a skilled carpenter.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting experienced carpenters on residential and commercial building projects

• Learning and executing fundamental carpentry techniques including measuring, marking, cutting and fitting timber and other materials

• Constructing and installing frameworks, roof trusses, flooring and wall systems

• Fitting doors, windows, internal linings and other carpentry fixtures

• Using hand and power tools safely and effectively in accordance with workplace health and safety standards

• Preparing work areas and maintaining tools and equipment in good working order

• Following construction drawings and specifications accurately

• Assisting with site cleanup and waste management

• Completing training modules and attending on-the-job instruction as part of your apprenticeship

• Communicating effectively with supervisors and senior tradespeople to understand requirements and report progress

What we're looking for

• Currently enrolled in or willing to enrol in a formal carpentry apprenticeship programme recognised in Victoria

• Year 10 or equivalent education minimum, with strong numeracy and literacy skills

• Physical fitness and the ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions

• Genuine enthusiasm for learning carpentry trades and developing technical skills

• Strong work ethic, reliability and punctuality

• Ability to follow instructions and take direction from experienced tradespeople

• A commitment to workplace health and safety practices

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

• Basic problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• A current, valid driver's licence is desirable for site access and mobility

• Previous experience in construction, manual work or related fields is an advantage but not essential
