Field Applied Research Australia (FAR Australia) is a leading agricultural research and extension organisation delivering independent, high-quality field research that improves on-farm productivity, profitability and sustainability. Working closely with growers, researchers and industry, FAR Australia develops practical solutions that strengthen outcomes for Australian agriculture.

Key selection criteria

FAR Australia is seeking to appoint a non-executive director as part of its 2026 board succession process, with appointments effective from the October 2026 AGM. The Director Recruitment Panel is seeking candidates who bring a combination of governance capability and relevant industry expertise.

Candidates must hold expertise in some, or all of the following:

●       Demonstrated board, advisory or executive leadership experience, with an understanding of governance practices, strategic oversight, and director responsibilities.

●       Experience overseeing organisational governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and financial responsibilities.

●       A strong understanding of the Australian grains industry and the ability to leverage industry networks, stakeholder relationships, and market insights to influence strategic outcomes.

●       Knowledge of climate resilience, sustainable farming systems, natural resource management, and emerging environmental challenges and opportunities affecting Australian agriculture.

●       Experience in agricultural research, innovation, extension, technology adoption, or the commercialisation and translation of research outcomes into industry practice.

●       Capacity to contribute to Board deliberations on emerging trends, technological advancements and industry developments to support FAR Australia's strategic objectives.

●       Demonstrate commercial judgement and strategic acumen, with the ability to assimilate and synthesise complex information

Remuneration and time commitment

Directors are remunerated. The board meets a minimum of five times per year, primarily online, with a minimum of one face to face meeting annually.
