We're looking for a Principal Security Specialist to play a pivotal role in strengthening our cyber resilience, influencing strategic security decisions, and helping safeguard the digital services that support communities across NSW.

This is an opportunity for an experienced cyber security professional who enjoys working at the intersection of risk, governance, assurance and technical security. You'll work across a diverse technology landscape, partnering with architects, engineers, operational teams and senior stakeholders to identify security risks, assess vulnerabilities, drive remediation and continuously uplift our security posture. You'll be trusted to provide expert advice, influence decision-making, and translate complex cyber risks into practical business outcomes.

About You

You are a confident cyber security specialist who can navigate seamlessly between technical discussions and executive-level conversations. You bring significant experience across cyber security, information security, risk management or security assurance, combined with a strong understanding of cyber security risk management principles, governance frameworks and security controls. You have demonstrated experience conducting security risk assessments, performing control gap analyses, and assessing the security posture of enterprise applications and ICT environments.

You will also possess a solid understanding of vulnerability management and penetration testing methodologies, with the ability to interpret findings and support effective remediation strategies. Equally important is your ability to translate complex technical security issues into clear, practical business advice for a range of stakeholders.

Essential Requirements 

• Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information and technology or related technical field and/or relevant experience
• Extensive experience in a cyber security (or similar) role with demonstrated experience in the application of technical security controls and tools
• Demonstrated experience conducting cyber security risk assessments, control gap analysis and developing risk treatment plans across enterprise applications, infrastructure and services.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting vulnerability and penetration testing results, assessing risk, and partnering with technical teams to drive remediation outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical security risks into clear, actionable advice for business and executive audiences.
