Assistant Accountant

SDN Children’s Services is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll work closely with the Revenue Accountant and broader Finance team to support accurate and timely financial processes across SDN.

About the role

As our Assistant Accountant, you’ll work closely with the broader Finance team to support accurate and timely financial operations across SDN.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the end-to-end childcare fee accounting process, including revenue recognition and account reconciliations.
• Completing month-end activities, including prepayments, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Preparing bank reconciliations and supporting GST/BAS preparation and lodgement.
• Managing finance-related customer matters through XAP CRM.
• Monitoring and following up outstanding debts and liaising with external debt collectors where required.
• Supporting forecasting, budgeting and trend analysis of utilisation and fee revenue.
• Assisting with the preparation of accurate financial reports and providing support during audits.
• Supporting the implementation and maintenance of finance systems and internal controls.
• Building strong working relationships with Centre Teams, Operations Managers and the Family Engagement Team.
• Providing backup support to the Revenue Accountant and contributing to the ongoing accuracy and efficiency of revenue accounting processes.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• An accounting degree and be studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
• A strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly revenue recognition.
• Experience with accrual accounting and general ledger reconciliations within a large or complex organisation.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking and organisational skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Previous experience within the childcare sector is highly desirable, and experience using XAP would be advantageous.

You will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, a current NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
