Yardman (Bus & Coach)

About the role

The Sydney Yardman plays a critical operational support role within the workshop and depot environment. This position is responsible for managing yard traffic, maneuvering fleet vehicles (buses), assisting trade mechanics, overseeing parts inventory, and maintaining a safe, compliant, and organised workshop environment.

Key responsibilities

• Safely maneuver, park, and relocate buses and fleet vehicles within the yard and workshop bays

• Conduct daily yard inspections to ensure optimal space utilisation and vehicle flow

• Manage vehicle wash bay operations and ensure vehicles are prepped for service or road deployment

• Ensure strict adherence to site traffic management plans and safety protocols

• Provide hands-on assistance to Heavy Vehicle/Diesel Mechanics during service and repair tasks

• Perform high-level cleaning, maintenance, and tool setup within the workshop and tool shop

• Utilise Working at Heights certification to safely access bus roofs, air-conditioning units, and elevated workshop structures

• Maintain workshop machinery and report any equipment defects or safety hazards immediately

• Operate the forklift safely to load, unload, and relocate parts, tires, and workshop equipment

• Receive, inspect, and log incoming goods and spare parts against purchase orders

About you

• Forklift Licence (LF) – Essential

• Working at Heights Certification – Essential

• Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver's Licence – Essential (for manoeuvring or relocating buses)

• Bus Driver Authority Card (NSW)

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or prior experience as a Trade Assistant in an automotive/heavy vehicle environment

• Proven experience in stores management, warehousing, or spare parts inventory control

• Confident driving skills with heavy passenger/fleet vehicles in tight workshop environments

• Strong communication skills and a proactive, self-motivated work ethic

• Physical fitness suitable for manual handling, elevated work, and active yard duties

• Computer literacy and the ability to navigate systems like Workspace, EROAD, monday.com, humand etc
