Head of Strategy

This is not a pure practitioner role. The Head of Strategy builds the discipline, sets the standard and ensures that strategic thinking is embedded in everything the agency produces, from a retail brief to a brand platform. They are a credible and trusted partner to senior clients, a collaborative force with creative and account leadership, and the person who makes Cheil's work smarter.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead the strategic direction of the agency across brand, creative, communications, retail and CX
• Set the standard for strategic output across all accounts and ensure consistent quality across the team
• Act as the senior strategic voice in client relationships, new business pitches and agency leadership discussions
• Develop and present strategies at the most senior client level – including C-suite and global stakeholders
• Establish, develop and grow the strategy function at Cheil Australia – including team structure, tools, frameworks and ways of working
• Mentor and develop strategists within the team, building capability across the discipline
• Connect with Cheil's global network to share thinking, tools and case studies – and bring global intelligence into the local operation
• Build deep understanding of clients' brand, business, competitive landscape and consumer context
• Act as strategic guardian across short and long-term planning for key accounts
• Work closely with creative, account management, production and digital teams to ensure strategy informs and elevates the work
• Collaborate on creative development – provide clear direction at brief stage and constructive input throughout
• Partner with the GM of Campaign and Creative and senior leadership on agency positioning, new business and growth
• Assist in scoping strategic projects and building commercial proposals
   

Qualifications and Experience

• 12+ years experience in a senior strategy role within an agency, consultancy or marketing environment
• Proven track record building or leading a strategy function – not just practising within one
• Experience developing brand, creative, communications, retail and CX strategies for large or global clients
• Strong background in consumer insights, audience segmentation and research methodologies
• Experience working with Samsung, consumer electronics, retail or telecommunications categories highly regarded
• Excellent written, verbal and visual presentation skills – confident and authoritative at the most senior level
• Familiarity with martech, analytics platforms and data-driven strategy development
