About the role
Thomas Reddall High School, located in Ambarvale on Dharawal country, is a comprehensive and growing high school with a current enrolment of approximately 520 students. The school proudly supports a diverse student population, with approximately 20% of students identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 24% coming from non-English speaking backgrounds. Thomas Reddall High School features a seven-class support unit that caters to students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and mental health needs. We foster a vibrant and inclusive school culture that prioritises holistic learning, wellbeing, attendance, and positive behaviour. Our school is committed to providing outstanding academic opportunities tailored to the individual needs of our diverse learners, demonstrated through consistent growth and value-added results in both the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and NAPLAN assessments. Explicit teaching and High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs underpin our teaching philosophy and strong transition programs 'In, through and beyond' support our students to determine personalised pathways to success.
The Support Teacher plays a key role in creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can access the curriculum and achieve their personal best. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, school leaders, families, and external agencies, the Support Teacher provides expert advice to develop, implement, and monitor personalised adjustments, evidence-informed teaching strategies, and targeted interventions that improve student learning, engagement, attendance, wellbeing, and positive behaviour.
The role builds teacher capacity through collaborative planning, coaching, and modelling inclusive practices, while supporting the development of Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PlaSPs), behaviour support plans, transition planning, and Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) processes. Using student data to inform decision-making, the Support Teacher promotes explicit teaching, differentiation, and equitable access to learning, ensuring students with disability and additional learning and support needs are supported to achieve successful outcomes in, through, and beyond school.
Specific Selection Criteria1. Approved to teach special education, or experienced teaching students with autism.
2. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage students, parents/carers, agencies and the community to build an inclusive school culture.
3. Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum by developing and implementing personalised learning and support that is culturally responsive, maximises student growth, fosters high expectations and promotes student engagement.
4. Evidence of successful classroom management with flexible and adaptive strategies that create a positive learning environment, including the use of early intervention strategies.
ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
