About the role
Located 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the world’s most advanced zinc refineries, supplying high-quality products to global markets.
We’re driven to be the safest, most environmentally responsible and most competitive refinery, and as a member of RE100, we’re leading the way in renewable-powered operations.
Join our Mechanical Maintenance team, where you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving plant reliability across fixed and rotating equipment.
You will:
Diagnose faults and perform breakdown and preventative maintenance
Maintain and repair conveyors, fans, blowers and agitators
Contribute to plant improvements and equipment modifications
Interpret technical drawings and record work in CMMS (JDE)
Support continuous improvement (TPM, 5S) and team safety initiatives
Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter (Cert III Engineering)
Experience in heavy industry or mineral processing
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability
Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Safety-focused with a proactive, team-oriented mindset
Desirable:
Forklift, EWP, Dogging, Rigging, Gantry Crane
Welding and basic fabrication skills
CMMS experience (JDE, SAP, Oracle)
Alignment and tracking experience
Strong hydraulic fault-finding and repair skills
Ability to interpret hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings
Work in a technically advanced, high-performing operation
