Located 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite.  Our process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting with sales to both domestic and international markets.

About the role

We are expanding our Mechanical Maintenance Workshop team and are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join this critical function. This is a Monday to Friday role with a fortnightly RDO (Rostered Day Off), providing an excellent work-life balance.

The role provides essential support to the mechanical maintenance workshop team and involves working with a range of fixed and rotating plant equipment, including compressors, pumps, fans, blowers and valve systems.

Working as part of the team, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe, reliable and cost-effective production of quality zinc products, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and operational performance.

About you

With your Trade Certificate (Cert III Engineering) and strong focus and commitment to safety, you will have gained experience in minerals processing operations or similar heavy industry.  You can execute both planned and breakdown maintenance on fixed plant including compressors, pumps, fans, blowers and valve systems

Your strong work ethic and problem-solving skills allow you to work autonomously with limited supervision, or when required, as part of a team.  You can safely and effectively plan your workload and have a can-do attitude.

Other desirable, however not essential, skills and experience include: 

• Proficiency in Word, Excel and CMMS (JDE, Oracle or SAP)
• Post trade welding competencies and experience (Manual Metal Ark Welding) 
• Experience in maintaining with pumps, compressors, fans and valve systems
• Experience with laser alignment is desirable
• Experience with gearbox rebuilds and bearing fitment practices are desirable
• Machining is also desirable
