The Opportunity A growing plaintiff personal injury practice is seeking an experienced
Personal Injury Paralegal to join its Workers Compensation team in Sydney.
This is a hands-on role for a paralegal with existing
NSW Workers Compensation experience who wants greater involvement in files, exposure to substantive legal work and a genuine opportunity to continue developing their career.
Working closely with experienced solicitors and an
Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law, you will support a busy portfolio of statutory Workers Compensation matters and assist injured workers in challenging insurer decisions and securing their entitlements.
You won't be limited to administrative tasks. You'll be involved throughout the lifecycle of matters, including evidence preparation, insurer disputes, permanent impairment claims, IRO funding and proceedings before the
Personal Injury Commission (PIC).
What You'll Be Doing Working under solicitor supervision, you will assist with the management and progression of Workers Compensation matters from initial instructions through to negotiated resolution or PIC proceedings.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and progressing a portfolio of NSW Workers Compensation files
- Drafting correspondence, submissions, statements and supporting documentation
- Preparing letters of instruction to doctors and medico-legal experts
- Assisting with applications to the Personal Injury Commission
- Reviewing insurer replies and dispute notices
- Reviewing medical records, clinical evidence and liability material
- Reviewing employer, expert and factual investigation reports
- Assisting clients to challenge insurer decisions affecting weekly benefits and medical/treatment expenses
- Assisting with statutory benefit disputes
- Initiating and progressing permanent impairment claims
- Preparing applications for funding through the Independent Review Office (IRO)
- Coordinating with treating doctors, experts, insurers and employers
- Managing deadlines and ensuring matters progress efficiently
Client Interaction You'll have regular direct contact with injured-worker clients and become an important point of contact throughout their matter.
You'll provide clear updates, obtain instructions, coordinate evidence and help clients understand what is happening throughout the claims and dispute process.
The role suits someone who combines strong technical and organisational skills with the ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with clients navigating difficult circumstances.
About You To be considered, you will ideally have:

3+ years' paralegal experience within Personal Injury Law
- NSW Workers Compensation experience
- Exposure to statutory benefit disputes and PIC matters
- Understanding of the NSW Workers Compensation claims and dispute process
- Familiarity with work capacity decisions and s60, s66 and s78 disputes
- Familiarity with IRO funding applications
- Strong drafting and written communication skills
- Excellent file management and organisational capability
- Ability to manage competing priorities and PIC deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and external stakeholders
Experience using
Smokeball or another legal practice management system will be highly regarded.
