Next Investors is hiring an AI Product Architect to help turn a 5 person, founder-led business into an AI powered operating system, without adding headcount.
This is not a software engineering role. If your focus is deep technical architecture, distributed systems, or writing production code day to day, this isn't the right fit. What they need is someone product minded who builds with AI tools daily, ships fast, and knows when not to over-engineer a solution.
About the businessNext Investors is a 15 year old ASX investment and media business with 42,000 subscribers. They invest their own capital in the small cap stocks they write about, and they're now executing a 3 year plan to become an AI enabled investment intelligence business, targeting $50M in funds under management, 50,000 subscribers, and a live US expansion.
What you'll actually do🧠 Build research and knowledge automation across roughly 10 macro themes and 40 portfolio companies, currently tracked manually 🗂️ Design the skeleton of a whole of company CRM, replacing a constellation of spreadsheets, one piece at a time 🎯 Work directly with the two founders to translate business goals into a prioritised AI build list 🤝 Direct an existing outsourced tech team as extra capacity, or work solo, your call 👤 Solo individual contributor role, no direct reports, no layers between you and the founders
Who this is forYou've worked closely with founders before, ideally inside a scrappy, small startupYou're product led first and AI fluent, not a software engineer looking to write code full timeYou build with AI tools daily, LLMs, agentic workflows, AI assisted development, as working practice, not theoryYou're comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and making calls with incomplete informationBonus: some curiosity or background in fintech, markets, or investing
The details💰 Very flexible & open for the right person📍 Melbourne based, remote first, with regular in person time early on🏢 Small, senior team, 4 to 5 people including the founders
