Homeless Law provides legal help to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Victoria. Through integrated legal and social work services, we help people resolve legal issues that affect their housing, safety, and stability. Our digital innovation work extends that reach further, through online self-help tools and resources like Dear Landlord, Home of Your Own, the Workers' Resource Hub, and Homeless Law in Practice, which support women experiencing family violence and housing insecurity, renters facing eviction, and community workers in the homelessness sector.

As our Senior Digital Innovation Lead, you will lead the continued growth and improvement of these tools. You will thrive in this role if you are someone who brings strong human-centred design expertise, enjoys working across disciplines, and is motivated by building digital products that make a real difference for people who may otherwise struggle to access legal help.

Justice Connect values flexibility. While this role is advertised as full-time, we will consider 0.8 FTE for the right candidate.

Our ideal candidate

You will bring to the team experience in the following areas:

• Proven experience leading the design and delivery of digital tools or services from concept through to implementation and iteration.
• Demonstrated application of human-centred design methodologies, including co-design, user research, and iterative prototyping, to improve digital products.
• Strong project management experience, including planning, prioritisation, stakeholder coordination, and delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, including legal, design, technology, and policy professionals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas for diverse audiences.

Required qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in human-centred design, user experience, service design, project management, and/or technology, digital systems, or IT.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering digital products or services, including familiarity with relevant tools, platforms, and methodologies.

Expertise that would further support our team:

• Experience working with people with lived experience, including applying trauma-informed and inclusive engagement practices.
• Experience monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the impact and effectiveness of digital tools, including use of data and insights to drive continuous improvement.
• Experience in the legal assistance, pro bono, community, or social impact sector.

What you will achieve in the role

In this role, you will lead the continued growth and improvement of Justice Connect's digital legal services, helping more people experiencing housing insecurity and family violence to understand their rights and take action. You will:

• Deliver significant improvements to Homeless Law's digital self-help tools and resources, resulting in a better user experience and greater reach.
• Embed human-centred design, user testing, and evaluation practices across digital innovation projects.
• Demonstrate the impact of digital legal assistance through data, evaluation, and reporting.
• Contribute to Justice Connect's strategic goal of increasing access to justice through innovative, scalable, and accessible service delivery models.
• Establish robust approaches to user research, testing, and evaluation, ensuring continuous improvement and measurable outcomes for clients, partners, and funders.

A week in this role

No two weeks will look exactly the same. Depending on project timelines, funding cycles, and sector need, a week in this role could include a mix of strategic planning, user research, product improvement, collaboration with legal and digital teams, and impact reporting. For example, you might:

• Start the week by reviewing user data and feedback from Dear Landlord or Home of Your Own to identify barriers for people experiencing housing insecurity, then work with lawyers, social workers, and the Data and Projects Lead to prioritise improvements before briefing a developer on changes that would make the tool clearer, safer, or easier to use.
• Facilitate a co-design or user testing session with community workers, people with lived experience, or frontline staff to understand how a digital resource is being used in practice, then translate those insights into practical recommendations and share key findings with the Homeless Law team.
• Lead a project planning session for a new or improved digital self-help resource, bringing together legal, communications, data, and technology perspectives, mapping project risks, confirming milestones, and making sure the work aligns with strategic priorities and funder expectations.
• Prepare a short impact update for a funder or internal stakeholder, drawing on website analytics, user feedback, casework insights, and project milestones to explain what has changed, what has been learned, and how the digital tool is helping people understand their rights or access legal help earlier.
• Spend time improving internal systems and ways of working by documenting project decisions, updating evaluation frameworks, and contributing to cross-team discussions about digital inclusion, responsible use of technology, or how Justice Connect can better meet the needs of people who are unlikely to access traditional legal services.

Salary

$107,531.21 per annum (pro-rata depending on FTE) + 12% superannuation + 17.5% annual leave loading

As a not-for-profit, Justice Connect is able to offer salary packaging, which allows you to enjoy part of your salary tax-free, increasing your take-home pay.

• Up to $15,900 per year on everyday living costs, including rent, mortgage, groceries, bills and personal loan repayments
• Up to $2,650 per year on meals and entertainment

Our salary packaging partner, Smart, will assist successful candidates in setting up and managing their arrangements.
