Parts Interpreter - Automotive

About the role

South Yarra Volkswagen is seeking an Experienced Parts Interpreter - Automotive to join our team on a full-time basis at our South Yarra, VIC location. This role is fundamental to our operations, serving as the vital link between our Trade & Panel customers, mechanics, and parts suppliers. As a Parts Interpreter, you will be responsible for accurately identifying, locating, and sourcing automotive parts, ensuring that both our external customers & workshop operates efficiently and customers receive the correct components for their vehicles.

What you'll be doing

• Accurately interpret and identify automotive parts from customer and mechanic requests, using technical knowledge and parts catalogues

• Source and locate parts from suppliers and inventory systems, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness

• Utilise parts management software and databases to retrieve specifications, part numbers, and pricing information

• Liaise between workshop staff, customers, and parts suppliers to communicate part requirements and delivery timelines

• Maintain accurate records of parts orders, inventory levels, and pricing quotations

• Advise customers and mechanics on part compatibility, availability, and alternative options when necessary

• Process parts orders and manage delivery schedules to minimise workshop downtime

• Ensure compliance with inventory management procedures and maintain organised stock systems

• Provide exceptional customer service, responding to enquiries professionally and promptly

• Contribute to the efficiency of the workshop by ensuring parts are sourced quickly and accurately

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Parts Interpreter, Parts Advisor, or similar role within the automotive industry

• Strong knowledge of automotive parts, components, and vehicle systems across multiple makes and models

• Proficiency with parts management software and computer systems, including the ability to navigate parts catalogues and databases efficiently

• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to various stakeholders

• Attention to detail and accuracy in identifying parts and processing orders

• Problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness in sourcing hard-to-find components

• Customer service excellence and a professional demeanour

• Valid driver's licence (desirable)

• Knowledge of Australian automotive regulations and standards is advantageous
