About the Role

Ribs Lane Forrestfield is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including food preparation and cooking, menu planning, maintaining food quality and presentation standards, managing kitchen supplies, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.

We are looking for a Chef who is organised, reliable and passionate about delivering consistently high-quality food in a busy commercial kitchen environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Developing, reviewing and assisting with menu planning while considering customer demand, ingredient availability and operational requirements.
• Estimating food, ingredient and labour requirements to support efficient kitchen operations and effective cost management.
• Coordinating the ordering and appropriate storage of food, ingredients and other kitchen supplies.
• Preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu specifications and restaurant standards.
• Monitoring the quality of ingredients, food preparation and completed dishes throughout each stage of production and presentation.
• Ensuring meals are presented consistently and meet the restaurant's required quality, portion and presentation standards.
• Coordinating with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to resolve food preparation, service and customer-related requirements.
• Advising kitchen staff on appropriate cooking methods, preparation procedures, portion control and presentation techniques.
• Demonstrating cooking techniques and providing practical guidance to junior kitchen staff where required.
• Organising kitchen workflow and coordinating food preparation to ensure meals are completed accurately and within appropriate service timeframes.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and food safety throughout all food preparation and storage areas.
• Implementing and ensuring compliance with workplace hygiene, food handling and food safety procedures.
• Monitoring stock levels, reducing unnecessary food wastage and ensuring ingredients are correctly rotated, stored, frozen or preserved where appropriate.
• Assisting with the selection, induction, training and supervision of kitchen staff when required.
• Working collaboratively with the kitchen and management team to maintain efficient day-to-day kitchen operations and consistently high food standards.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery;
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery;
• Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or a related hospitality qualification is preferable;
• A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience working in a commercial kitchen;
• Sound knowledge of commercial cooking techniques, food preparation and kitchen operations;
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling requirements;
• Ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment;
• Good organisational and time-management skills;
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and
• A strong commitment to maintaining food quality and presentation standards.
