The Flagship Reporting Unit (FRU) produces the AIHW's flagship publications, Australia's health and Australia's welfare, which provide trusted national insights into the health, wellbeing and welfare of Australians. These publications are widely used by governments, policymakers, researchers, service providers and the community to understand the health, welfare and wellbeing of Australians, identify emerging issues and trends, and support evidence-informed decision-making. The data and insights they provide inform policy development, service planning and resource allocation, ultimately contributing to improved health and welfare outcomes for Australians.

FRU combines evidence synthesis, strategic reporting, publishing and stakeholder engagement to translate complex information into accessible and impactful products. The unit works collaboratively across the AIHW and with external stakeholders to identify key trends, communicate insights and continuously improve the way evidence is presented to a range of audiences. 

FRU is seeking an experienced APS6 Senior Reporting and Insights Officer to help shape Australia's most important welfare reporting products. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys synthesising complex information, identifying meaningful insights and translating evidence into compelling content for diverse audiences.

Working as part of a high-performing and collaborative team, you will contribute to the development of nationally significant publications and digital content that inform public debate, policy development and service delivery across Australia. Experience in research, report writing, content development or publishing is essential, alongside managing competing priorities and working effectively with stakeholders at all levels. 

Under general direction you will support the production and delivery of the Australia’s welfare 2027 product suite.

This includes:

• Contribute to the development of high-quality flagship content, including evidence synthesis, environmental scanning, desktop research and writing.
• Translate complex data and research into clear, engaging and accessible insights for a broad audience.
• Identify emerging trends and key findings that strengthen the narrative and impact of flagship products.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, data analysts, designers and digital specialists to develop impactful reporting products.
• Contribute to the development of data visualisations, digital content and product enhancements that improve user engagement and accessibility.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders across the AIHW and external organisations to coordinate contributions and support publication delivery.
• Support the preparation of release materials, including executive briefings, presentations, media content and social media communications.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance content quality, digital publishing practices, website visibility, search engine optimisation (SEO) and AI search discoverability.
• Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and mentoring to team members, support capability development and performance outcomes, and foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.
