Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced Plant Hire BDM to join our growing team, taking on two linked accountabilities: driving external hire revenue across WDC's owned plant fleet, and supervising our truck fleet of five truck and dog combinations, one road train, one float and two vac trucks. WDC owns its entire fleet and hires minimal external plant, so this role exists to keep that fleet working - every day it's idle is a direct cost to the business.

You'll build and maintain relationships with external hirers across the Surat Basin, Darling Downs and Western Downs, keep a live picture of fleet availability against internal demand, and convert spare capacity into hire revenue - including working the competitor market so WDC plant gets hired regardless of who wins a tendered package. Alongside this, you'll manage day-to-day allocation and scheduling of the truck fleet and lead the driver group.

Key Responsibilities:

• Business Development – Build and grow an external hire customer base through direct contact, site visits and follow-up across the Surat Basin, Darling Downs and Western Downs

• Fleet Utilisation – Track fleet availability, hire status and idle time, quoting from the approved WDC rate schedule and escalating anything outside it

• Truck Fleet Supervision – Allocate and schedule the truck fleet daily and weekly, ensuring compliance with fatigue and Chain of Responsibility obligations

• Driver Leadership – Lead, supervise and develop the truck driver group, including inductions, toolbox talks and performance management

• Tender-Linked Hire – Work with the Estimating team to identify other tenderers on WDC-bid packages and approach them so WDC plant is hired whoever wins the work

• Reporting & Systems – Maintain accurate hire and allocation records, and report utilisation and revenue variances to the Plant Manager

What You'll Need:

• Proven business development or account management experience, ideally in plant hire, transport or civil construction

• Solid understanding of Heavy Vehicle National Law, Chain of Responsibility and fatigue management obligations

• Experience supervising or leading a driver or operator workforce

• Strong commercial acumen and confidence negotiating hire arrangements

• Current Drivers Licence

• Construction White Card
