Facilities Support

SC1    Demonstrated experience maintaining gardens, grounds and facilities, including seasonal tasks and presentation standards.

SC2    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with management, principals, teachers, education support staff and contractors.

SC3    Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technical and non-technical equipment as relevant to the position including but not limited to gardening and power tools.

SC4    Proven ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and carry out duties with minimal supervision, or no supervision, in a safe, orderly and secure manner.

SC5    Demonstrated capacity to undertake general maintenance tasks that do not require the expertise of a tradesperson or the supervision of a manager.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, in this role you will work to maintain the general appearance of the school gardens, grounds, yards and buildings to a high standard, including but not limited to, garden maintenance including weeding, minimal mowing, poisoning, blowing paths, gutters and pruning where required. The successful applicant will also have the capacity to monitor, report on, and undertake minor building maintenance tasks that do not require a licenced tradesperson. Any experience in hydrotherapy pool maintenance, water quality testing and chemicals is a bonus, but not essential. Training for this can be provided at a later date. 

School Holiday attendance requirements for this position can be negotiated however you will be required at times up to a maximum of 30 days per year. A leave purchase allowance will be paid for school holiday attendance.

This position is based at Barwon Valley School on Laura Avenue in Belmont. It is an Education Support position at Level 1 Range 2.  The days and times of the position are flexible and can be slightly negotiated. Ideally someone available at least 3-4 weekday afternoons from approx. 2:30 ¿ 5:30pm.  

• Work independently with confidence and initiative, including prioritising workloads.
• Provide care and maintenance of the school grounds to a high standard, including maintenance of the school's gardens, lawns, in line with the school's landscape maintenance plan.
• Maintenance of gardens and recreation areas including management and removal of weeds and blowing/vacuuming of leaves and other debris.
• Ensuring all tools, plant and equipment are maintained in good operating condition, accounted for, stored in a safe manner, and operated in accordance with manufacturer¿s instructions and safe work procedures.
• Minor building maintenance and repairs, including small carpentry, sanding and painting jobs, door/gate repairs and other tasks that do not require a licenced tradesperson.
• Assist the school in maintaining a clean environment by collecting rubbish around the school grounds regularly, including removal of graffiti as required, and ensuring that recycling cardboard trolleys are emptied into large bins weekly, and are not overflowing in between empty cycles.
• Comply with all appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and actively encourage compliance by others, report all possible safety risks immediately to management. 
• Liaise with contractors who can assist with the maintenance of the buildings and grounds, equipment, repairs, and servicing of the school as required. Good clear communication, people skills and report and note writing essential. 
• Work at heights and climb ladders to access roof spaces (school will facilitate undertaking of RIIWHS204E - Work safely at heights) if required, for the purposes of retrieval of sporting equipment and personal belongings, and as required for completing minor building and maintenance tasks.
• Being familiar with the essential services such as mechanical, gas, electrical, fire and hydraulic systems of the school.
• Occasionally the setting up and packing up of events, relocating classroom or office furniture, along with scrap metal & green waste disposal will be required. 
• Water quality testing of our Hydrotherapy Pool including PH, Temperature & Chlorine levels are required to be completed daily, along with removal and cleaning of our robot pool vacuum. Some chemical additions may be required at times once training has been completed. 
• Contribute to school asset and maintenance record keeping requirements using the Asset Information Management System (AIMS) and Compass Issue Tracker.
• Other duties as determined by the Facilities Manager, Principal and Business Manager.

Barwon Valley is a Special Developmental School situated in Belmont for students from Foundation to Year 12. It is a purpose built facility which provides a friendly, stimulating, caring and secure environment for students with moderate to profound disabilities.
