Maintenance and Facilities Support

About the role

Barwon Valley School is seeking a dedicated Maintenance and Facilities Support professional to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is essential to ensuring our school facilities remain safe, clean, and well-maintained, creating an optimal learning environment for our students and staff. Based in Belmont VIC 3216, you will play a crucial part in the day-to-day operations of our school by managing maintenance tasks, supporting facilities management, and contributing to the overall functionality of our campus.

What you'll be doing

• Performing routine maintenance and repairs on school buildings, equipment, and facilities

• Conducting regular inspections of school premises to identify and address maintenance issues promptly

• Regular grounds upkeep including poisoning, weeding, minor hedging and pruning, tidying leaves along with a small amount of mowing and edging.

• Cleaning and maintaining all areas of the school including classrooms, common areas, grounds, and outdoor spaces

• Responding to maintenance requests from staff in a timely and professional manner

• Assisting with the setup and breakdown of facilities for school events, assemblies, and activities

• Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities and facilities issues

• Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and relevant workplace regulations

• Supporting the facilities team with general labour tasks and operational support

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in maintenance, facilities management, or a related field

• Knowledge of general maintenance practices and familiarity with basic repairs and troubleshooting

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a school environment

• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to working with staff, students, and visitors

• Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, climbing, and working at heights

• Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)

• Experience working in an educational setting or school environment (advantageous)

About us

Barwon Valley is a Special Developmental School situated in Belmont for students from Foundation to Year 12. It is a purpose built facility which provides a friendly, stimulating, caring and secure environment for students with moderate to profound disabilities. We implement School Wide Positive Behaviour Support to promote positive behaviour, using our school values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, FUN, DIGNITY and SUPPORT. Our vision is to provide maximum opportunities for all students to access and be involved in a comprehensive education based on the Victorian Curriculum. Teaching programs support students to reach their maximum potential in both school and community settings.  Our educational environment is comprised of Junior and Senior Learning Communities. Internal and external work experience programs are provided for students across the Senior Learning Community and strong links with local agencies and businesses support us with this program. An excellent staff/student ratio ensures that class groups have approximately 9 students. Students are actively involved in setting their learning goals in consultation with parents and other relevant personnel. We employ a diverse range of Allied Health Specialists including therapists, wellbeing personnel and nurses who support students to access their educational programs and support classroom staff in the delivery of these programs.
