Diesel/ Plant Mechanic & Welder

Cobra Waste Solutions is a busy waste management company based in Yennora, 2161, looking for an experienced Diesel / Plant Mechanic to join our team.

This is an onsite position working across our fleet of heavy vehicles, plant and waste-management equipment. The successful applicant will also be required to attend off-site breakdowns and repairs when necessary, using their own tools and reliable transport.

About the Role

You will be responsible for keeping our trucks, plant and equipment safe, reliable and operational. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced mechanic who is confident working independently and can diagnose and repair a range of mechanical and hydraulic issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy trucks, plant and waste-management equipment.

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems.

• Carry out regular inspections and preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns and equipment downtime.

• Perform welding, fabrication and repairs to bins, plant, truck bodies, frames and other equipment.

• Ensure vehicles and machinery are maintained to a safe and roadworthy standard.

• Respond to breakdowns and mechanical issues both onsite and offsite when required.

• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.

• Identify potential mechanical issues before they result in costly breakdowns.

• Work safely and follow all workplace health and safety requirements.

• Keep the workshop and work areas clean, organised and safe.

Essential Requirements

You must have:

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

• Strong welding and fabrication experience – ESSENTIAL.

• Experience working on heavy trucks, plant or industrial machinery.

• Strong mechanical diagnostic and repair skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage breakdowns and repairs.

• Ability to carry out preventative maintenance and servicing.

• Current driver's licence.

• Own reliable transport.

• Own professional mechanic's tools.

• Strong commitment to workplace safety.

• Ability to work flexible hours and overtime when required.

Highly Desirable

• Heavy Vehicle Mechanic qualification.

• Experience in the waste management, transport, earthmoving or heavy machinery industry.

• Experience with hydraulic systems.

• Experience repairing and fabricating truck bodies, bins and plant equipment.

• Experience attending roadside or off-site breakdowns.

We are looking for a reliable, experienced and hands-on mechanic who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of keeping heavy vehicles and equipment safe and operational.

Welding and fabrication experience is essential for this position. Applicants without practical welding experience will not be considered.
