About Little Compass

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Chef to join our team and take pride in preparing fresh, healthy and enjoyable meals for the children in our care.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, offering the opportunity to work as an important part of our centre community.

About the Role

As our Chef, you will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks for the children, while ensuring all food is prepared safely and in accordance with relevant food safety requirements.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about cooking, understands the importance of nutrition in early childhood and has strong knowledge of food allergies and dietary requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain nutritious, varied and child-friendly menus.

• Prepare, cook and serve meals and snacks for children.

• Ensure meals are prepared safely and appropriately for different age groups.

• Maintain a high level of awareness and understanding of food allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements.

• Ensure children with allergies and special dietary requirements are catered for safely.

• Order food and kitchen supplies as required.

• Receive and appropriately store food deliveries.

• Monitor food quality, freshness and stock levels.

• Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen and food preparation areas.

• Complete and maintain all required food safety documentation and paperwork.

• Follow and maintain the centre's Food Safety Program.

• Ensure food handling, preparation, storage and serving practices meet required standards.

• Work collaboratively with the centre team to support the health, wellbeing and individual needs of the children.

About You

We are looking for a Chef who:

• Is passionate about cooking nutritious and delicious food for children.

• Has experience preparing and cooking meals in a childcare, education, commercial or similar environment.

• Has a strong understanding of food allergies and dietary requirements.

• Takes pride in maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen.

• Has excellent food safety and hygiene practices.

• Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.

• Has a warm and positive approach and enjoys being part of a team.

• Understands the importance of providing healthy, appealing meals for young children.

Essential Requirements

• Working with Children Check (WWCC)

• Food Safety Certificate

• Food Safety Supervisor Skill Set

• Gecko Child Safety Training
