CNC machinist/operator

About the role

Z Axis Product Manufacturing is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This is a full-time position based in Sandgate, QLD 4017. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to produce precision components and parts. You will play a crucial part in ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards whilst maintaining safe and efficient production schedules. This position is central to our manufacturing operations and directly impacts our ability to deliver quality products to our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Operating CNC machines to produce components according to technical specifications and drawings

• Setting up CNC machinery, including installing cutting tools, fixtures and workpieces

• Monitoring machine operations and making adjustments to ensure accuracy and quality

• Performing quality checks on finished components using measuring instruments and gauges

• Maintaining detailed records of production runs, machine performance and any issues encountered

• Undertaking routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines to ensure optimal performance

• Troubleshooting machine malfunctions and reporting defects to supervisors or maintenance team

• Following health and safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organised work environment

• Continuously improving efficiency and identifying opportunities to reduce waste and downtime

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a CNC machinist or CNC operator in a manufacturing environment

• Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints and CAD files

• Strong understanding of CNC programming, machine operations and tooling

• Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as micrometres, callipers and gauges

• Knowledge of machining processes, cutting techniques and material properties

• Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues efficiently

• A solid understanding of health and safety procedures and workplace protocols

• Relevant qualifications or certifications in CNC machining or manufacturing are advantageous

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:

• Diploma or trade certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,

• Engineering – Mechanical Trade, CNC Machining, or a closely related field.

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a CNC Machinist or in a similar precision

• machining/manufacturing role.

• Practical experience in CNC milling and/or CNC turning.

• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical

documentation.

• Experience with CNC programming and CAD/CAM systems will be highly regarded.

• Sound knowledge of machining processes, tooling, feeds, speeds and precision tolerances.

• Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.

• Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
