About the role
Help Strengthen Wellbeing, Connection and Community to create meaningful change in people's lives.
We’re seeking a male Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander consultant to join our multidisciplinary clinical team in Western Australia, based in Perth, as a Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Practitioner. This is an identified position and is only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander male candidates*.
This is an opportunity to be part of a team committed to improving the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities through culturally safe, trauma-informed and relationship-based practice.
More than a traditional wellbeing support role, you'll work alongside clients, families, communities and multidisciplinary teams to support healing, strengthen cultural identity, advocate across systems and create meaningful, sustainable change. Every day is different, with opportunities to combine direct client work, community engagement, cultural consultation and capacity building.
We'll support you to deepen your expertise and build a career around the work that matters most to you.

Why Join SAL Consulting?
At SAL Consulting, we work with children, young people and adults across disability, mental health, education, child protection, out of home care, justice and forensic settings. We support individuals, families, organisations and systems to create meaningful and sustainable change.
We are recognised nationally for our neurodevelopment, attachment and a trauma-informed (©NATI) practice, relationship-based approach and commitment to practitioner development. Our team consistently tells us that the quality of supervision, professional development opportunities and culture are what set SAL apart.
Why Practitioners Choose SAL
Team Feedback
What Our Team Say About Working alongside SEWB Practitioners
We believe the impact of SEWB work at SAL is best described by the people who see it every day:
"Kinship and culture have immerse power to drive change for individuals in both indigenous and non-indigenous settings.”
“Working alongside our SEWB practitioners has fundamentally reshaped how I understand and respond to behaviour. It has challenged me to move beyond a purely clinical lens and to sit more deeply with meaning, context, and cultural identity.”
“Administering psychological assessment can often feel quite clinical and, at times, misaligned with Aboriginal culture and best practice. Having an SEWB practitioner walk alongside has made a meaningful difference, supporting clients to feel more comfortable throughout the assessment, to understand the need for the assessment, and build strong relationships.”
“It also encourages space for yarns to happen naturally, so the assessment feels less like a procedure and more like a shared journey.”
“I am humbled by the resonance of unspoken knowing and profound connection. Even when dealing with the most complex situations, while everyone else may feel unsure, the SEWB practitioners walk in with a grounded way of knowing, being and doing that is quite simply something I strive to embody.”
“I’m proud to be part of an organisation that takes relationships, knowledge sharing, and caring for each other and Country seriously. Continuing this legacy of genuine partnership with First Nations peoples matters deeply. We have so much to learn from them, and so much to gain by listening.”
