The Role

We’re looking for an Experienced Drafter to join our Roads & Highways team in Townsville, supporting the delivery of major transport infrastructure projects across Australia.

In this role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality drafting and documentation outputs, ensuring alignment with SMEC and client standards while contributing to efficient, coordinated project delivery.

You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams in a collaborative, digitally enabled environment, playing a key role in delivering buildable, compliant design documentation for road, highway, and civil infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D drawings for roads, highways, and civil infrastructure projects
• Deliver construction-level documentation in line with project requirements
• Apply SMEC drafting standards, QA processes, and client specifications
• Manage drawing outputs within project timelines and milestones
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design delivery
• Maintain and manage data within Common Data Environments (e.g. ProjectWise or similar)
• Undertake checking and review of drawings to ensure quality and accuracy
• Support continuous improvement in digital delivery and drafting practices

About You

You’re a capable and detail-oriented drafter with experience working on transport infrastructure projects, ideally within roads, highways, or broader civil infrastructure environments.

You bring:

• 3-7 years of demonstrated experience as a Drafter within roads, highways, civil, or infrastructure projects
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience delivering detailed design and construction documentation
• Understanding of drafting standards, QA processes, and model coordination
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

Experience working within digital delivery environments and across multidisciplinary teams will be highly regarded. Familiarity with Austroads standards, road design documentation, and major transport infrastructure projects will be viewed favourably.
