What We Are Offering
About the Role
The Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) – Public Intoxication Response (PIR) works as part of a multidisciplinary outreach team delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed, and health-focused care to individuals experiencing intoxication or related health vulnerabilities across the Greater Bendigo and Castlemaine regions. In alignment with the Victorian Government’s decriminalisation of public intoxication, the role aims to improve health outcomes, reduce alcohol and other drug-related harm, and support community wellbeing through clinical assessment, timely intervention, and person-centred care.
The core function of the Public Intoxication Response (PIR) Service is to provide a responsive outreach health service to individuals affected by intoxication or at risk of adverse health and social outcomes. This includes undertaking comprehensive health assessments, delivering immediate clinical care and harm minimisation interventions, monitoring health status, facilitating safe transfer or referral to appropriate services, and providing follow-up care as required. Through proactive engagement, health education, and care coordination, the PIR team supports individuals to access the health and social services they need, promoting recovery, reducing health risks, and strengthening connections to ongoing care and support.
