About the role
The Club’s Bistro offers casual dining featuring a variety of Australian and Asian cuisines, along with its popular Yum Cha feast every Saturday and Sunday. With a range of indoor and outdoor spaces, the Club also caters to corporate functions, celebrations, group events and other special occasions.
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Chef to join our team for the opening of our new venue. The successful candidate should be confident preparing pub/club staples, with some Italian cuisine experience. You will manage a small kitchen team while maintaining high-quality, affordable meals and ensuring smooth kitchen operations.
Duties and responsibility of a chef is not limited to:
· Plan, prepare and cook a variety of Australian and Asian-style dishes, including pub/club favourites, for members, guests and functions.
· Prepare high-quality meals while ensuring consistency in taste, presentation and portion control.
· Assist with menu planning and development to suit Club members’ preferences and venue requirements.
· Prepare ingredients, sauces and food items required for daily Bistro operations and special events.
· Manage food preparation, cooking and presentation during service periods.
· Supervise and support the kitchen team to ensure efficient and smooth kitchen operations.
· Monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking and final presentation.
· Assist with stock ordering, inventory control, stock rotation and minimising food wastage.
· Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment in accordance with food safety standards.
· Ensure compliance with hygiene regulations, workplace health and safety requirements and Club procedures.
· Coordinate with Club management and front-of-house staff to deliver a positive dining experience.
· Prepare meals for Bistro services, functions, events and large group bookings.
· Assist with training and guiding kitchen staff on cooking techniques and food preparation procedures.
· Contribute ideas for menu improvements and seasonal offerings.
· Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure all work areas are cleaned and organised after service.
· Support the delivery of quality food experiences that reflect the welcoming and community-focused atmosphere of Taren Point Bowling Club.
Qualifications and skills
· Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Chef in a Club, Pub, Café, Restaurant, or similar high-volume kitchen environment.
· Experience preparing Australian and Asian-style cuisine; Italian cuisine experience will be highly regarded.
· Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
· Ability to work independently and efficiently during busy service periods.
· Experience supervising or supporting a small kitchen team.
· Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and kitchen procedures.
· Ability to assist with menu planning, stock control and cost management.
· Excellent reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude.
· Flexibility to work weekends, functions and busy trading periods.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
