About the role
Parts Manager – Automotive
We are seeking an experienced Parts Manager to lead our busy parts operation in Hobart.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced automotive parts professional who is ready to take the next step in their career, or an established Parts Manager looking for the opportunity to make a real impact within a well-established dealership group.
Reporting directly to the Parts Group Manager, you will take ownership of the parts operation, leading a team while driving sales performance, inventory optimisation, customer service and overall departmental profitability.
About the Role
As Parts Manager, you will be responsible for the effective leadership and day-to-day management of the parts department, ensuring the team delivers exceptional service to workshop, trade, retail and internal customers.
You will combine people leadership and automotive parts expertise to ensure the department operates efficiently, maintains appropriate stock levels, maximises sales opportunities and consistently delivers against business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, train and support the Parts team to achieve high standards of performance and customer service.
Build a positive, high-performance and safety-focused team culture.
Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management of team members.
Provide leadership and support when dealing with escalated customer enquiries or issues.
Ensure team members operate in accordance with company, HR and workplace health and safety requirements.
Sales & Customer Service
Develop and implement strategies to achieve parts sales targets and support business growth.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, trade customers, workshops and dealerships.
Identify opportunities to grow parts sales and increase genuine parts purchasing.
Monitor customer service standards and drive improvements in customer satisfaction and retention.
Ensure prompt, accurate and professional responses to customer and trade enquiries.
Inventory & Supply Chain
Oversee stock levels to ensure product availability while minimising excess and obsolete inventory.
Maintain effective stock control processes and conduct regular stock audits.
Work closely with suppliers to secure supply, manage lead times and negotiate pricing where appropriate.
Ensure accurate parts identification, ordering, receipting and distribution.
Oversee warranty, returns and supplier agreement requirements.
Financial & Business Performance
Take responsibility for the financial performance of the parts department.
Monitor revenue, gross margin, expenses and overall departmental profitability.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting and business planning.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase profitability.
Prepare and communicate business performance information to senior management.
Operational Excellence
Ensure consistent and efficient parts processes and procedures.
Drive continuous improvement across the department.
Oversee the effective use of dealer management systems, inventory software and technology.
Ensure compliance with company standards, industry requirements and relevant legislation.
About You
We are looking for someone who can combine strong people leadership with genuine automotive parts knowledge.
You will ideally have:
Proven experience in automotive parts management, preferably within a dealership environment.
Strong knowledge of automotive parts, inventory management and supply processes.
Experience leading, developing and motivating a team.
Strong commercial understanding, including sales targets, margins, budgets and financial performance.
Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
The ability to confidently manage competing priorities in a busy, high-volume environment.
High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Experience using a Dealer Management System (DMS) and inventory software.
A customer-first approach and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external customers.
