VicRoads is progressing too. In August 2022, we started on a new chapter when the Victorian State Government partnered with Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, and Macquarie Asset Management to operate registration and licensing services on its behalf.

We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

Annual Salary Range: Up to $171,000 for Senior and $140 for Midweight Employment Type: Ongoing - Full-Time Usual Work Location: QV 180 Lonsdale Street CBD/ Work from home

About The Opportunity

The Senior Front-end Developer will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing the user-facing web solutions that are part of VicRoads’ digital portfolio, ensuring they are functional and optimized for performance. Utilising strong expertise in React and other javascript-based frameworks, this role will collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver outcomes that align to best practices and high-coding standards to drive technical innovation..

Front-End Development & Delivery: Design and develop dynamic, responsive web interfaces using component-based architecture, translating designs into performant, cross-browser compatible UIs, and applying optimisation techniques like lazy loading and code splitting for fast, seamless user experiences.Quality Assurance: Implement front-end security measures (e.g., XSS, CSRF), ensure accessibility compliance with WCAG standards, and proactively address issues to deliver secure, inclusive, and high-quality web applications.Teamwork & Collaboration: Mentor junior developers, promote strong development practices, and collaborate with UX designers and product managers to define business requirements and deliver user-centric web solutions.

About You

You’re a well-rounded engineer with a strong grasp of front-end, mobile, and back-end technologies, and you understand how they come together to deliver seamless digital experiences. You’re proficient in modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, Vue.js, and Svelte, and you build responsive, mobile-first applications that scale.

You write testable, maintainable code with a focus on reusability and modern best practices. You’ve worked with CI/CD pipelines, and you’re confident managing builds and deployments in fast-paced environments.

You’re skilled at analyzing complex systems, identifying opportunities for optimization, and improving performance. You collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including architecture, security, and product, to design and deliver high-impact features.

Security is second nature to you—you understand and apply best practices throughout the development lifecycle. You’re also a strong communicator, able to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You have a keen eye for design and UX, and you strive to produce high-quality, well-tested solutions. You’re experienced in API design and protocols like RESTful, WebSocket, and GraphQL, and you know how to integrate them effectively into modern web applications.

Above all, you’re committed to continuous learning, staying up to date with the latest technologies, frameworks, and industry trends to keep your skills sharp and your solutions cutting-edge.
