DRIVER - HR / HIAB

About the role

Joe and Sons Hardware is seeking an experienced Driver - HR / HIAB to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a key operational role based in Homebush West, NSW 2140, where you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our heavy rigid and HIAB-equipped vehicles. You will play a vital part in our logistics operations, ensuring timely and professional delivery of goods to our customers whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service. This role is essential to supporting our business objectives and maintaining our reputation for reliability and excellence in the transport and logistics sector.

What you'll be doing

• Operate heavy rigid (HR) and HIAB-equipped vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with all relevant road safety regulations and company policies

• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are in optimal working condition and report any maintenance issues promptly

• Load, unload and secure cargo using the HIAB crane and other equipment, ensuring all goods are transported safely and without damage

• Navigate routes effectively to ensure on-time delivery and collection of goods, whilst optimising fuel efficiency

• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption and hours of work in compliance with statutory requirements

• Communicate professionally with customers, warehouse staff and management to coordinate deliveries and resolve any operational issues

• Adhere to all traffic laws, speed limits and workplace health and safety regulations at all times

• Maintain a clean and well-organised vehicle interior and exterior

• Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry best practices and company procedures

What we're looking for

• Current and valid Heavy Rigid (HR) driving licence with a clean driving record

• HIAB or equivalent crane operation certification or proven experience operating HIAB-equipped vehicles

• Minimum of 2-3 years' professional driving experience in a transport or logistics environment

• Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle safety checks, load securing procedures and relevant transport regulations

• Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and team members

• Excellent time management and route planning capabilities

• High level of attention to detail and commitment to workplace health and safety standards

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• Physical fitness to safely perform loading and unloading duties

• Preferred: Experience with livestock transport, hardware distribution or similar specialised freight handling is advantageous
