Aboriginal Wellbeing Worker, CLS Bankstown

About the role

This is an Aboriginal Identified Position - authorised under the S14d of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977

This position is part-time (22.5 hours per week), fixed term until 30 June 2031, with the possibility of extension.

The Aboriginal Wellbeing Worker Supports CLS program participants, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to build strengths, set goals and live well in their community. Providing practical support that is culturally responsive and recovery focused, the Aboriginal Wellbeing worker helps builds independence, confidence and connection, while working collaboratively with families, services and community.

Duties

• Support people with complex mental health needs to live well in their community with choice, dignity and independence. 
• Help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants identify strengths, set goals and build skills for decision-making, healthy living and community connection. 
• Collaborate with participants, families, carers, housing and mental health services to deliver holistic, recovery-focused support. 
• Build partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, promote mental health awareness, and provide cultural guidance to the CLS team.

Skills & Experience

1. Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within the Aboriginal communities across the relevant CLS program location.
2. Qualifications in mental health, health or community/social services discipline (minimum Certificate IV). 
3. Demonstrated commitment to working from a recovery orientation, in line with the National Framework for Recovery Oriented Mental Health Services.
4. Demonstrated capacity to engage with and mentor people, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to work towards their recovery goals in a structured and planned way. 
5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and develop positive and effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including program participants, families and carers and other service providers.
