Contract Administrator

Metwest Steel Pty Ltd is a Western Australian company specialising in structural steel fabrication, supply and installation for commercial, industrial and construction projects. Based in Bibra Lake, we work closely with builders, contractors, suppliers and subcontractors to deliver structural steel packages in accordance with project specifications, contractual requirements and construction schedules.

Due to continued business growth and an increasing volume of projects, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Contract Administrator to join our team.

The Contract Administrator will be responsible for the commercial and contractual administration of projects from contract award through to completion. Working closely with management, project personnel, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, the successful candidate will assist in ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, budgets, agreed scope and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, interpret and administer construction contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders and related commercial documentation.
• Assist with contract negotiations and ensure contractual obligations, deliverables and commercial requirements are clearly identified and managed.
• Prepare, review and administer subcontractor agreements, supplier agreements and purchase orders.
• Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments and contractual expenditure throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and assess progress claims, payment claims, variations and contractual adjustments.
• Identify, document and manage variations to project scope and ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
• Review subcontractor and supplier claims and verify completed works, quantities and contractual entitlements.
• Liaise with clients, builders, subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams regarding contractual and commercial matters.
• Monitor key contractual dates, milestones, notice requirements, extensions of time and other contractual obligations.
• Assist in the preparation of contractual correspondence, notices, claims and supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate contract registers, variation registers, procurement records, correspondence and other project documentation.
• Assist with project procurement, including obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Monitor the commercial performance of projects and provide regular cost and contract status reports to management.
• Identify potential contractual and commercial risks and assist management in implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
• Assist with project close-out, final accounts, reconciliation of variations and resolution of outstanding contractual matters.
• Work closely with project managers, estimators, drafting/fabrication teams and site personnel to support the successful delivery of structural steel projects.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building and Construction, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in contract administration within the construction, structural steel, engineering or related industries.
• Demonstrated understanding of construction contracts, subcontract administration, procurement and commercial project management.
• Experience with progress claims, variations, cost control and subcontractor management.
• Strong ability to read and interpret contracts, project specifications, drawings and commercial documentation.
• Sound understanding of construction project delivery processes.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining accurate project and contractual records.
• Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Experience with construction or project management software will be highly regarded.
