Full Time – Based Regional WA

Total Package $115,234.96 per annum (inclusive of superannuation)

(Breakdown of remuneration – Base $102,888.36 + 12% Super $12,346.60)

Located: on the traditional lands of the Noongar and Minang people and surrounds.

As a Road Safety Advisor, relationships sit at the heart of what you do.

Based in Albany and supporting Local Governments in the surrounding Great Southern and southern Wheatbelt regions, you’ll understand the unique strengths and challenges of regional communities and bring excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to build positive relationships.

You will play a key role in building the capacity and capability of assigned RoadWise Councils as they plan, deliver, monitor and communicate effective, evidence informed local road safety action.

This is meaningful work where those road safety actions directly contribute to reducing and preventing serious road trauma.

We welcome applications from candidates with knowledge around Health Promotion principles across regional Western Australia, as an alternative work location may be considered for the right person.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Build trusted relationships with RoadWise Councils to identify and understand their context and provide tailored road safety support.
• Build knowledge and capability by promoting best practice road safety and Safe System approaches.
• Guide Local Governments in planning, delivering, monitoring and communicating evidence-based road safety initiatives.
• Plan and develop quarterly workplans to focus support and delivery of RoadWise Council priorities and monitor progress.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, articles and case studies tailored to a range of audiences.
• Work collaboratively with Local Governments, regional partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities, address barriers, and share good practice.
• Represent WALGA at regional forums, committees and working groups.

Your first six months will be all about:

• Building your understanding of the RoadWise Program, Safe System principles, best practice road safety application and the WA Local Government context.
• Establishing relationships with Local Governments and support new RoadWise Council registrations.
• Learning about the unique context, priorities and challenges of the Local Governments you support.
• Assessing Local Government road safety capacity and management to identify priorities and develop tailored workplans.
• Using health promotion principles to assess current maturity, set priorities that support progress towards better practice and plan action that will strengthen road safety governance and management.

Knowledge of Local Government operations, the WA road safety strategy and public health principles will be well regarded.

A car will be provided with this role so a “C” class driver’s licence, a safe driving record and a willingness to travel is essential.

What is RoadWise?

WALGA’s RoadWise program is funded by the Western Australian Government to engage and support Local Governments to contribute to national and state road safety objectives. RoadWise engages RoadWise Councils in strategic and sustainable initiatives towards embedding systems-based approaches to road safety. This happens through activities designed to build the capacity and capability of Local Governments by:

• Providing direct assistance and support to RoadWise Councils,

• Sharing information and facilitating the transfer of knowledge,

• Inspiring and motiving best practice, and

• Developing sector policy and advocating on behalf of Local Governments and their communities.
