About the role
The Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) is seeking an experienced and culturally responsive Senior Policy Officer - Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) to lead the development and implementation of Indigenous-led monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks that strengthen evidence-informed policy, advocacy and strategic decision-making across the organisation.
The Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) is the national body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students, focused on equitable health and life outcomes for Indigenous people. We do this by working towards reaching population parity of Indigenous medical students and doctors; and supporting a culturally safe healthcare system.
AIDA’s work is grounded in sovereignty and cultural integrity, reciprocity and accountability, equity and inclusion, self-determination and leadership, and justice and courage. Our strategic goals focus on culturally grounded membership, a thriving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical workforce, health system reform, strong relationships and cultural governance, and sustainable systems, technology and funding.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Strategic Policy & Impact, the Senior Policy Officer - Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) leads the design and implementation of culturally grounded monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks that support evidence-informed policy, advocacy and strategic decision-making across AIDA's programs and priorities.
The role contributes to strengthening the evidence base for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce development and health system reform by undertaking qualitative and quantitative data analysis, generating policy-relevant insights, and supporting continuous learning and improvement through Indigenous-led approaches to monitoring and evaluation.
Working closely with AIDA staff, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students, community-controlled organisations, researchers, government stakeholders and sector partners, the role requires strong analytical capability, sound judgement, a deep understanding of Indigenous methodologies and data sovereignty, and the ability to translate complex evidence into meaningful insights that support advocacy, policy development and system change.
As the Senior Policy Officer – Monitoring Evaluation & Learning (MEL), you will:
Lead the design and implementation of MEL and evidence frameworks that integrate monitoring, evaluation and structured data analysis, grounded in Indigenous methodologies and cultural safety principles.
Desirable
This role is pivotal in ensuring a strong evidence base, grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, is effectively used to enhance medical education and training and improve healthcare delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
To apply, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your suitability for the role, including your relevant skills, experience and interest in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors undertaking specialist training.
