About the role
As part of the Program Support unit, you will provide high-level financial support to program and project teams, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, Australian Accounting Standards and departmental policies.
You will analyse and report on financial performance, monitor budgets and forecasts, support monthly SAP reporting, and provide financial advice and training to stakeholders. You will manage accounts payable and receivable, journals and accruals, maintain data integrity, identify process improvements, and contribute to sound financial governance and decision-making.
This role is suited to a finance professional with strong analytical and communication skills, experience using financial systems, and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes in a collaborative environment. Your work will directly support projects that benefit communities across Northern Queensland.
Key responsibilities include:
• Interpret and apply financial policies and procedures relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable, journals and accrual accounting, ensuring legislative compliance.
• Analyse financial activities across multiple systems to ensure consistency and compliance across the district.
• Monitor financial performance, budgets and forecasts, and prepare program and project reports.
• Review financial activities to ensure data integrity, compliance with controls and departmental policies, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare, review and report on operational budgets.
• Analyse financial data and prepare SAP reports, supporting monthly reporting and investigating account anomalies.
• Deliver financial training and support through individual and small group sessions.
Mandatory requirements:
• Current Class C Driver Licence.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
• Demonstrated experience in a financial support role, with knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems such as SAP, or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial management skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify risks and provide sound advice and support.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
• Proven organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and deliver quality outcomes.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, combined with a collaborative approach and commitment to contributing to team success.
