About the Role Play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the Bunjil Place Café kitchen, delivering fresh, high-quality food for café guests while supporting catering across a diverse range of functions, conferences, community events and internal council catering. Reporting to the Head Chef, you'll work within a collaborative team environment where no two days are the same. This role offers predominantly daytime hours, with flexibility required to support weekend operations and occasional evening events. What You’ll deliver Prepare, cook and present high-quality café menu items, including breakfast, lunch and cooked-to-order offerings.
Support the delivery of catering for functions, conferences, events and internal meetings across Bunjil Place.
Maintain exceptional food safety, hygiene and quality standards in all kitchen operations.
Assist with stock control, ordering, deliveries and waste minimisation to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Work collaboratively with the Head Chef, Sous Chef, front-of-house and event teams to deliver outstanding customer experiences and successful event outcomes.
Contribute to planning and costing of seasonal café specials, continuous improvement initiatives and the ongoing success of the Bunjil Place food offering.
What You’ll Bring Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and experience working in a commercial café, restaurant, catering or hospitality kitchen.
Experience preparing fresh, cooked-to-order menu items in a fast-paced service environment.
Strong food preparation and cookery skills with a commitment to quality, presentation and consistency
Sound knowledge of food safety, allergen management and safe food handling practices.
The ability to effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
A collaborative, customer-focused approach and a genuine passion for creating memorable food and event experiences.
Flexibility to work weekends and support occasional evening functions and events as required
Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check, and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
