About the role
EcOz Environmental Consultants is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Water and Soils Team in Darwin. This is a senior, hands-on role leading meaningful water, soil and contaminated land projects across northern and central Australia. With 5+ years' post-graduate experience, preferably including at least five years in environmental consulting, you will deliver technically robust projects, guide field and reporting teams, manage client relationships and help grow EcOz's Water and Soils capability. Key responsibilities
Manage small and medium-sized water, soil and related environmental projects from tendering, scoping and planning through to fieldwork, reporting, budget control, invoicing and close-out, and contribute to larger projects as directed.
Coordinate project teams, field programs, sub-consultants and internal/external resources to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.
Develop investigation methodologies, monitoring programs, approval strategies and practical solutions for environmental risks, constraints and regulatory requirements.
Prepare, review and refine technically accurate reports, proposals, sampling plans, methodologies and other project deliverables within agreed timeframes.
Manage project scope, budgets, timeframes, resourcing, delivery risks and client expectations, including tracking costs, monitoring budgets and addressing variations or overruns.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, regulators, authorities, contractors, sub-consultants, Traditional Owners, landholders and internal teams.
Contribute to proposals, tenders, fee estimates, repeat work opportunities and the ongoing growth of the Water and Soils capability.
Provide technical input and support to staff, mentor junior and mid-level consultants, provide constructive feedback, and promote strong QA/QC, WHS and project governance practices.
Apply relevant NT, Commonwealth and Australian legislation, regulations, policies, standards and technical guidance, and remain up to date with legislative and industry changes.
Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and comply with EcOz and client Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, including applicable ISO requirements.
About you
A degree in environmental science, environmental management or related discipline.
5+ years' post-graduate experience, preferably including at least five years' consulting experience in environmental science, environmental management, water, soil, contaminated land or a related field.
Experience planning, leading and reporting on water and/or soil investigations, monitoring programs and field-based assessments, including the safe and correct use of relevant field equipment.
Practical knowledge of relevant environmental, regulatory, planning, land and resource management, health and safety legislation, policies, technical guidelines and assessment processes.
Strong project management skills, including preparing fee proposals and costings, managing budgets, teams, sub-contractors, delivery risks, client expectations and project deliverables.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work confidently with clients, regulators and project teams.
Ability to provide technical support, delegate appropriately, mentor less experienced consultants and support safe, high-quality field and reporting work.
Organised, motivated and self-directed approach.
Ability and willingness to travel, camp and work in remote areas, including outside standard hours and occasionally on weekends.
Current driver's license.
